Radiation-induced changes in established tumor immunity.

چکیده
The effect of radiation therapy on tumor growth and on specific immune resistance to tumor growth was investi gated in mice actively sensitized to a syngeneic sarcoma. While radiation was therapeutic for tumor growth in the radiated field, it was also found that extensive-field radia tion, but not limited-field radiation, could facilitate the growth of tumors in unradiated parts of the animal. The facilitation was greatest with radiation soon after the time of tumor implantation.

Establishment of a rat model of radiation-induced lung injury
Background: Radiation-induced lung injury is a refractory side effect in lung cancer radiotherapy, the mechanism still remains unclear, hence an appropriate animal mode may become useful to investigate it. Materials and Methods: 50 female Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, average 10 rats/cage: A. control group B. 3Gy×10f C. 6Gy×5f D. 12.5Gy×1f E.15.3Gy×1f....
متن کاملIn vitro generation of cytotoxic lymphocytes against radiation- and radiation leukemia virus-induced tumors. III. Suppression of anti-tumor immunity in vitro by lymphocytes of mice undergoing radiation leukemia virus-induced leukemogenesis
Adult C57BL/6 mice exposed to fractionated irradiation or inoculated with the radiation leukemia virus (RadLV), develop high incidence (80-100%) of lymphatic leukemias within 3-6 mo. RadLV-induced lymphomas can elicit cytotoxic responses in vitro in lymphocytes of preimmunized syngeneic mice, a reaction that is dependent on the expression of membrane-associated viral antigenicity. As soon as 5 ...
متن کاملCancer control related to stimulation of immunity by low-dose radiation.
Previous studies showed that low dose radiation (LDR) could stimulate the immune system in both animal and human populations. This paper reviews the present status of relevant research as support to the use of LDR in clinical practice for cancer prevention and treatment. It has been demonstrated that radiation-induced changes in immune activity follows an inverse J-shaped curve, i.e., low dose ...
متن کاملAnti-inflammatory role of piperine against rat lung tissue damage induced by gamma-rays
Background: Radiation‐induced acute lung damages are refractory side effects in lung cancer radiotherapy (RT). Prospective study investigates the possible role of piperine (Pip) as anti-inflammatory agent against γ-rays-induced lung tissue lesions in an applicable rat model. Materials and Methods: Fifty-six Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: Control, rats were administered...
متن کاملRestorative Effect of Vitamin E Supplementation on Hepatic Lipid Peroxidation and Lipid Profile Changes Induced by Sublethal γ-Radiation in BALB/c Mice
In order to find a prophylactic supplementation for individuals who are at risk of exposure to ionizing radiation, we attempted to evaluate the effect of Vitamin E (Vit-E), a biological free radical scavenger, on restoration of hepatic lipid peroxidation (LPO) and lipid profile (LP) changes induced by sublethal g- radiation in BALB/c mice. The concentrations of cholesterol and phospholipid were...
